答：为了使我们更加晓得其权威性，第四条诫命所附加的遵行理由：
（1） 首先是出自于其中衡平的原则，即上帝让我们在一周之内有六日作自己的工，但却保留一日归祂自己:“六日要劳碌作你一切的工”（出20:9）；
（2） 上帝要求我们把这日特别归给祂:“第七日是向耶和华你上帝 当守的安息日”（出20:10）；
（3） 而且，上帝以身作则:“六日之内，主造天、地、海和其中的 万物，第七日便安息”；
（4） 上帝特别祝福此日，不但把这日分别为圣，用于事奉祂，而且指定，当我们守此日为圣的时候，此日便成 为我们蒙福的器皿:“所以耶和华赐福与安息日，定为圣日”（出20:11） 。
