第二十七章 论圣礼

  一、圣礼是恩典之约的圣洁标记与印证1,由神直接所设立2,为要表征基督和他的恩惠,并坚持我们在他里面的关切3;又在属教会的人与世界其余的人之间设立一可见的区分4;并且按照神的话,在基督里严肃地服事神5。


  二、在每一圣礼中,在标记与表征之间都有一种属灵的关系,或言圣礼上的联合;因此一圣礼的名称与功效可归其他圣礼使用6。


  三、在正当执行的圣礼中所表示的恩典,并非由于圣礼的本身所给与的任何效力,亦非在乎执行圣礼者的虔诚或存心7,乃在乎圣灵的工作8,和设立圣礼的话语,在此话语中含有吩咐人使用圣礼的命令,又给那配领受圣礼者得福益的应许9。


  四、我们的主基督在福音中只设立了两个圣礼,即洗礼和主餐;二者除正式受封立的牧师执行外,任何人不得执行10。


  五、旧约的圣礼关于属灵之事所表征的,与新约的圣礼在本质上相同11。

第二十七章 论圣礼

一.圣礼是恩典之约的圣洁标记和印证(罗4:11;创17:7,10),由上帝亲自设立(太28:19;林前11:23),代表基督及其恩惠,并证实我们与祂有分(林前10:16;11:25-26;加3:17);圣礼也将属教会的人与世上其他的人明显划分(罗15:8;出12:48;创34:14),并严肃地要求他们在基督里照着上帝的圣言服事祂(罗6:3-4;林前10:16,21)。


二.在每一圣礼中,在标记和其所表征者之间,都有一种属灵的关系,或圣 礼上的联合;因此,二者名称和功效可以彼此相归(创17:10;太26:27-28;多3:5)。


三. 在施行得宜的圣礼中,借此圣礼所展示的恩典,并不是由圣礼本身的什么权能赋与的;圣礼的功效也不依赖施行者的虔诚或心意(罗2:28-29;彼前 3:21),而是依赖圣灵的运行(太3:11;林前 12:13)和设立圣礼的道,因为这道不仅吩咐人举行圣 礼,而且应许赐恩惠给配领受的人(太26:27,28;28:19-20)。


四. 我们的主基督在福音中所设立的圣礼只有两个,即洗礼和圣餐:它们除由合乎圣经按立的牧师施行以外,任何人不得施行(太28:19;林前 11:20,23;4:1;来5:4)。


五.旧约的圣礼对属灵之事所表征的,在实质上是与新约的圣礼所表征的相 同(林前10:1-4)。

CHAPTER 27 OF THE SACRAMENTS

1. Sacraments are holy signs and seals of the covenant of grace, immediately instituted by God, to represent Christ, and his benefits; and to confirm our interest in him: as also, to put a visible difference between those that belong unto the church, and the rest of the world; and solemnly to engage them to the service of God in Christ, according to his Word.

2. There is, in every sacrament, a spiritual relation, or sacramental union, between the sign and the thing signified: whence it comes to pass, that the names and effects of the one are attributed to the other.

3. The grace which is exhibited in or by the sacraments rightly used, is not conferred by any power in them; neither doth the efficacy of a sacrament depend upon the piety or intention of him that doth administer it: but upon the work of the Spirit, and the word of institution, which contains, together with a precept authorizing the use thereof, a promise of benefit to worthy receivers.

4. There be only two sacraments ordained by Christ our Lord in the Gospel; that is to say, baptism, and the Supper of the Lord: neither of which may be dispensed by any, but by a minister of the Word lawfully ordained.

5. The sacraments of the old testament, in regard of the spiritual things thereby signified and exhibited, were, for substance, the same with those of the new.

Of the Sacraments

I. III. The grace which is exhibited in or by the sacraments rightly used, is not conferred by any power in them; neither does the efficacy of a sacrament depend upon the piety or intention of him that does administer it:[7] but upon the work of the Spirit,[8] and the word of institution, which contains, together with a precept authorizing the use thereof, a promise of benefit to worthy receivers.[9]

IV. There are only two sacraments ordained by Christ our Lord in the Gospel; that is to say, Baptism, and the Supper of the Lord: neither of which may be dispensed by any, but by a minister of the Word lawfully ordained.[10]

V. The sacraments of the Old Testament in regard to the spiritual things thereby signified and exhibited, were, for substance, the same with those of the new.[11]

7 罗二28因为外面作犹太人的,不是真犹太人;外面肉身的割礼,也不是真割礼。 29惟有里面作的,才是真犹太人;真割礼也是心里的,在乎灵,不在乎仪文。这人的称赞不是从人来的,乃是从 神来的。彼前三21 这水所表明的洗礼,现在藉著耶稣基督复活,也拯救你们;这洗礼本不在乎除掉肉体的污秽,只求在 神面前有无亏的良心。

8 太三11我是用水给你们施洗,叫你们悔改;但那在我以后来的,能力比我更大,我就是给他提鞋也不配。他要用圣灵与火给你们施洗。林前十二13 我们不拘是犹太人,是希腊人,是为奴的,是自主的,都从一位圣灵受洗,成了一个身体,饮于一位圣灵。

[4] ROM 15:8 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers. EXO 12:48 And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the passover to the Lord, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof. GEN 34:14 And they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us.

[5] ROM 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 1CO 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.

[6] GEN 17:10 This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. MAT 26:27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. TIT 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.

[8] MAT 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire. 1CO 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
