第十九章 論神的律法

一、神給亞當一個律法作行為之約,神藉此約來束縛他和他的後裔,來親自、完全、切實並永遠順服他;遵守此約予以生命的應許,破壞此約予以死亡的威嚇;神又賜給亞當遵守此律法的能力與成就力1。
二、此律在亞當墮落之後,仍為完全之義的準則,並如此成為神在西乃山所頒佈又刻於兩塊石版上的十誡2;頭四誡是我們對神當盡的本份,其餘六誡是我們對人的本份3。
三、除此律(通常稱為道德律)之外,神喜歡把禮儀律賜給尚為幼稚教會的以色列民,其中有些象徵的儀式:一方面是關於禮拜的,預表基督和他的恩惠、行為、苦難和恩益4;一方面是提示種種道德義務的訓令5。這些禮儀律在今日新約時代都廢止了6。
四、神把以色列民當作一個政治體,所以又賜給他們種種的司法律。這些司法律都隨着以色列國同歸於盡,這些司法律除了一般公正的要求以外,現今不再有任何約束7。
五、道德律永遠約束世上一切的人,稱義的和其餘的人,命令他們遵守8。這並不只是為了律法的內容,也是為了頒佈此律法者,創造主宰神的權威9。基督在福音中並非廢掉這義務,反更堅固之10。
六、真信徒雖不在為工作(行為)之約的律法下得稱為義或被定罪11;可是這律法對於他們或別人都大有用處。即律法乃生活的規律,使他們知道神的旨意和他們的義務,指示、約束他們照着去行12。又因令他們發現他們的本性、內心和生活上有罪的敗壞13,當他們按律法檢查自己的時候,就越發知道罪,為罪而謙卑,以致憎惡罪14,同時更明確認識自己需要基督和他完全的順服15。照樣,律法對於重生的人去防止腐敗,禁止罪惡上也是有用的16。又因律法的威嚇,就指出他們的罪所應得的,雖然得免律法所威嚇的咒詛,但因罪的緣故在今生要受苦17。照樣,律法的應許也指示他們,神喜悅人的順服並遵行律法所得的祝福18,不是因行工作之約的律法而得19,所以人行善棄惡,是因律法勉勵他行此棄彼,這不足以證明他是在律法之下,而不在恩典之下20。
七、上述律法的用處也並不與福音的恩典背道而馳,乃與之巧妙融合21。基督的靈制服人的意志,並賜以能力,使他甘心樂意行神的旨意,即在律法中所啟示要行的那些事22。

一.上帝賜給亞當一個律法,作為行為之約,用來約束他與他的後裔親自、完全、嚴格、持續地順服;上帝應許他遵守得 生,警告他違背受死;並賜給他守此律法的能力(創1:26同2:17;羅2:14-15;10:5;5:12,19;加3:10,12;傳7:29;伯28:28)。
二.在他墮落之後,此律法仍是公義的完美標準,並由上帝在西乃山頒佈於 十條誡命之中,刻在兩塊石版上(雅1:25;2:8,10-12;羅13:8-9;申5:32;10:4;出34:1);前面四誡包含我們對上帝當盡的本分,其餘六誡包含我們對人當盡的本分(太22:37-40;出 20:3-18)。
三.除這通稱為道德律的十誡以外,上帝按祂自己的美意,把禮儀律賜給以色列人這未成年的教會,其中有若干預表性的律例,一部分是為崇 拜之用,以預表基督和祂的美德、作為、苦難和惠益(來9,10:1;加 4:1-3;西2:17);一部分揭示關乎道德責任的各種 教訓(林前5:7;林後6:17;猶23)。 這些禮儀律在新約時代都被廢止了(西2:14,16,17;但9:27;弗2:15,16)。
四.上帝把以色列人視為一個國家,也賜給他們各種司法性的律例。這些司 法律已與那百姓的國家一同期滿終止了,除了為著一般衡平法所要求的以外,現在不再有任何的約束力(出21,22:1-29;創 49:10同彼前2:13-14;太5:17,38,39;林前9:8-10)。
五.道德律永遠對所有人都有約束力,不管是已經稱義的人,還是其他人, 都當順服(羅13:8-10;弗6:2;約壹2:3,4,7-8);這不僅僅是因其所含的內容,也是因其頒佈者造物主上帝的權威(雅2:10,11)。這種責任,基督在福音中,不僅絲毫沒有廢掉,反而更加強了(太 5:17-19;雅2:8;羅3:31)。

CHAPTER 19 OF THE LAW OF GOD
1. God gave to Adam a law, as a covenant of works, by which he bound him and all his posterity to personal, entire, exact, and perpetual obedience, promised life upon the fulfilling, and threatened death upon the breach of it, and endued him with power and ability to keep it.
2. This law, after his fall, continued to be a perfect rule of righteousness; and, as such, was delivered by God upon Mount Sinai, in ten commandments, and written in two tables: the first four commandments containing our duty towards God; and the other six, our duty to man.
3. Beside this law, commonly called moral, God was pleased to give to the people of Israel, as a church under age, ceremonial laws, containing several typical ordinances, partly of worship, prefiguring Christ, his graces, actions, sufferings, and benefits; and partly, holding forth divers instructions of moral duties. All which ceremonial laws are now abrogated, under the new testament.
4. To them also, as a body politic, he gave sundry judicial laws, which expired together with the State of that people; not obliging any other now, further than the general equity thereof may require.
5. The moral law doth forever bind all, as well justified persons as others, to the obedience thereof; and that, not only in regard of the matter contained in it, but also in respect of the authority of God the Creator, who gave it. Neither doth Christ, in the gospel, any way dissolve, but much strengthen this obligation.
6. Although true believers be not under the law, as a covenant of works, to be thereby justified, or condemned; yet is it of great use to them, as well as to others; in that, as a rule of life informing them of the will of God, and their duty, it directs and binds them to walk accordingly; discovering also the sinful pollutions of their nature, hearts, and lives; so as, examining themselves thereby, they may come to further conviction of, humiliation for, and hatred against sin, together with a clearer sight of the need they have of Christ, and the perfection of his obedience. It is likewise of use to the regenerate, to restrain their corruptions, in that it forbids sin: and the threatenings of it serve to show what even their sins deserve; and what afflictions, in this life, they may expect for them, although freed from the curse thereof threatened in the law. The promises of it, in like manner, show them God's approbation of obedience, and what blessings they may expect upon the performance thereof: although not as due to them by the law as a covenant of works. So as, a man's doing good, and refraining from evil, because the law encourageth to the one, and deterreth from the other, is no evidence of his being under the law; and, not under grace.
7. Neither are the forementioned uses of the law contrary to the grace of the gospel, but do sweetly comply with it; the Spirit of Christ subduing and enabling the will of man to do that freely, and cheerfully, which the will of God, revealed in the law, requireth to be done.

5 林前五7你們既是無酵的面,應當把舊酵除淨,好使你們成為新團;因為我們逾越節的羔羊基督,已經被殺獻祭了。林後六17又說:「你們務要從他們中間出來,與他們分別,不要沾不潔淨的物,我就收納你們。猶23有些人你們要從火中搶出來,搭救他們;有些人你們要存懼怕的心憐憫他們,連那被情慾沾染的衣服也當厭惡。

7 出廿一1-36(略),廿二1-29(略);創四十九10圭必不離猶大,杖必不離他兩腳之間,直等細羅(註:就是「賜平安者」)來到,萬民都必歸順。彼前二13-14 你們為主的緣故,要順服人的一切制度,或是在上的君王,或是君王所派罰惡賞善的臣宰。太五17 莫想我來要廢掉律法和先知。我來不是要廢掉,乃是要成全。38-39你們聽見有話說,以眼還眼,以牙還牙。只是我告訴你們,不要與惡人作對。有人打你的右臉,連左臉也轉過來由他打。林前九8-10我說這話,豈是照人的意見。律法不也是這樣說嗎?就如摩西的律法記着說,牛在場上踹谷的時候,不可籠住它的嘴。難道神所掛念的是牛嗎?不全是為我們說的嗎?分明是為我們說的。因為耕種的當存着指望去耕種。打場的也當存得糧的指望去打場。
8 羅十三8-10凡事都不可虧欠人,惟有彼此相愛,要常以為虧欠。因為愛人的就完全了律法。像那不可姦淫,不可殺人,不可偷盜,不可貪婪,或有別的誡命,都包在愛人如己這一句話之內了。愛是不加害與人的,所以愛就完全了律法。弗六2你們作兒女的,要在主里聽從父母,這是理所當然的。約壹二3-4我們若遵守他的誡命,就曉得是認識他。人若說我認識他,卻不遵守他的誡命,便是說謊話的。真理也不在他心裏了。7-8親愛的弟兄啊,我寫給你們的,不是一條新命令,乃是你們從起初所受的舊命令;這舊命令就是你們所聽見的道。再者,我寫給你們的是一條新命令,在主是真的,在你們也是真的;因為黑暗漸漸過去,真光已經照耀。羅三31這樣,我們因信廢了律法麼?斷乎不是!更是堅固律法。六15這卻怎麼樣呢?我們在恩典之下,不在律法之下,就可以犯罪嗎?斷乎不可!
9 雅二10-11因為凡遵守全律法的,只在一條上跌倒,他就是犯了眾條。原來那說「不可姦淫」的,也說「不可殺人」。你就是不姦淫,卻殺人,仍是成了犯律法的。
10 太五17-19莫想我來要廢掉律法和先知。我來不是要廢掉,乃是要成全。我實在告訴你們,就是到天地都廢去了,律法的一點一畫也不能廢去,都要成全。所以無論何人廢掉這誡命中最小的一條,又教訓人這樣作,他在天國要稱為最小的。但無論何人遵行這誡命,又教訓人遵行,他在天國要稱為大的。雅二8 經上記着說,要愛人如己。你們若全守這至尊的律法才是好的。羅三31 這樣,我們因信廢了律法嗎?斷乎不是,更是堅固律法。
11 羅六14 罪必不能作你們的主。因你們不在律法之下,乃在恩典之下。八1 如今那些在基督耶穌里的,就不定罪了。加二16既知道人稱義,不是因行律法,乃是因信耶穌基督,連我們也信了基督耶穌,使我們因信基督稱義,不因行律法稱義,因為凡有血氣的,沒有一人因行律法稱義。三13基督既為我們受了咒詛(註:「受」原文作「成」),就贖出我們脫離律法的咒詛,因為經上記着:「凡掛在木頭上都是被咒詛的。」四4-5及至時候滿足, 神就差遣他的兒子,為女子所生,且生在律法以下,要把律法以下的人贖出來,叫我們得着兒子的名分。徒十三39你們靠摩西的律法,在一切不得稱義的事上信靠這人,就都得稱義了。
12 羅七12這樣看來,律法是聖潔的,誡命也是聖潔、公義、良善的。22因為按着我裏面的意思(註:原文作「人」),我是喜歡 神的律;25感謝 神!靠着我們的主耶穌基督就能脫離了。這樣看來,我以內心順服 神的律,我肉體卻順服罪的律了。詩一一九4-6 耶和華阿,你曾將你的訓詞吩咐我們,為要我們殷勤遵守。但願我行事堅定,得以遵守你的律例。我看重你的一切命令,就不至於羞愧。林前七19受割禮算不得什麼,不受割禮也算不得什麼,只要守 神的誡命就是了。加五14因為全律法都包在「愛人如己」這一句話之內了。16我說:你們當順着聖靈而行,就不放縱肉體的情慾了。18-23 但你們若被聖靈引導,就不在律法以下。情慾的事,都是顯而易見的。就如姦淫,污穢,邪盪,拜偶像,邪術,仇恨,爭競,忌恨,惱怒,結黨,紛爭,異端,嫉妒,(有古卷在此有兇殺二字)醉酒,荒宴等類,我從前告訴你們,現在又告訴你們,行這樣事的人,必不能承受神的國。聖靈所結的果子,就是仁愛,喜樂,和平,忍耐,恩慈,良善,信實,溫柔,節制。這樣的事,沒有律法禁止。
13 羅七7這樣,我們可說什麼呢?律法是罪嗎?斷乎不是!只是非因律法,我就不知何為罪。非律法說,「不可起貪心」,我就不知何為貪心。三20所以凡有血氣的,沒有一個因行律法能在 神面前稱義,因為律法本是叫人知罪。
14 雅一23-25因為聽道而不行道的,就像人對着鏡子看自己本來的面目。看見,走後,隨即忘了他的相貌如何。惟有詳細察看那全備使人自由之律法的,並且時常如此,這人既不是聽了就忘,乃是實在行出來,就在他所行的事上必然得福。 羅七9 我以前沒有律法是活着的,但是誡命來到,罪又活了,我就死了。14 我們原曉得律法是屬乎靈的,但我是屬乎肉體的,是已經賣給罪了。24我真是苦阿,誰能救我脫離這取死的身體呢?
15 加三24 我只要問你們這一件,你們受了聖靈,是因行律法呢?是因聽信福音呢?你們既靠聖靈入門,如今還靠肉身成全嗎?你們是這樣的無知嗎?你們受苦如此之多,都是徒然的嗎?難道果真是徒然的嗎? 羅七24-25我真是苦阿,誰能救我脫離這取死的身體呢? 感謝神,靠着我們的主耶穌基督就能脫離了這樣看來,我以內心順服神的律。我肉體卻順服罪的律了。八3-4 律法既因肉體軟弱,有所不能行的,神就差遣自己的兒子,成為罪身的形狀,作了贖罪祭,在肉體中定了罪案,使律法的義成就在我們這不隨從肉體,只隨從聖靈的人身上。
16 雅二11原來那說「不可姦淫」的,也說「不可殺人」。你就是不姦淫,卻殺人,仍是成了犯律法的。詩一一九101我禁止我腳走一切的邪路,為要遵守你的話。 104我藉着你的訓詞得以明白,所以我恨一切的假道。 128你一切的訓詞,在萬事上我都以為正直,我卻恨惡一切假道。
17 結九13-14;詩八十九30-34 倘若他的子孫離棄我的律法,不照我的典章行。背棄我的律例,不遵守我的誡命。我就要用杖責罰他們的過犯,用鞭責罰他們的罪孽。只是我必不將我的慈愛,全然收回,也必不叫我的信實廢棄。我必不背棄我的約,也不改變我口中所出的。
18 利廿六1-14(略);林後六16神的殿和偶像有什麼相同呢?因為我們是永生 神的殿,就如 神曾說:「我要在他們中間居住,在他們中間來往;我要作他們的 神,他們要作我的子民。」 弗六2-3你們作兒女的,要在主里聽從父母,這是理所當然的。要孝敬父母,使你得福,在世長壽。這是第一條帶應許的誡命。詩卅七11但謙卑人必承受地土,以豐盛的平安為樂。 十九11況且你的僕人因此受警戒,守着這些便有大賞。太五5溫柔的人有福了,因為他們必承受地土。
19 加二16既知道人稱義不是因行律法,乃是因信耶穌基督,連我們也信了基督耶穌,使我們因信基督稱義,不因行律法稱義,因為凡有血氣的,沒有一人因行律法稱義。路十七10這樣,你們做完了一切所吩咐的,只當說:『我們是無用的僕人,所做的本是我們應分做的。』」

21 加三21這樣,律法是與神的應許反對嗎?斷乎不是。若曾傳一個能叫人得生的律法,義就誠然本乎律法了。

[13] ROM 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. ROM 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

PSA 37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. MAT 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. PSA 34:12 What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? 13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. 14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. 15 The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. 16 The face of the Lord is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. HEB 12:28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. 29 For our God is a consuming fire.
[21] GAL 3:21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
[22] EZE 36:27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. HEB 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people. JER 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
