33 问：称义是什么？

答：“称义”是神白白恩典的行动，在其中神赦免我们一切的罪恶，接纳我们在祂面前为义人，这唯独因为基督的义归算给我们，而我们只是凭信心接受而已。

A. Justification is an act of God’s free grace, wherein he pardons all our sins, and accepts us as righteous in his sight, only for the righteousness of Christ imputed to us, and received by faith alone.

答：称义是神的作为，祂将白白的恩典赐给罪人，借此祂赦免他们一切的罪，接纳他们，使他们在祂面前被算为义；这并非因在他们里面成就了什么，或他们作了什么，乃是唯独因为基督的完美顺服与偿清罪债；神将此归算在他们身上，并且是唯独借着信心领受的。

Q. 70. What is justification?

A. Justification is an act of God's free grace unto sinners, in which he pardoneth all their sins, accepteth and accounteth their persons righteous in his sight; not for anything wrought in them, or done by them, but only for the perfect obedience and full satisfaction of Christ, by God imputed to them, and received by faith alone.

71 问：为何“称义”是神白白恩典的作为？

Q. 71. How is justification an act of God's free grace?

A. Although Christ, by his obedience and death, did make a proper, real, and full satisfaction to God's justice in the behalf of them that are justified; yet inasmuch as God accepteth the satisfaction from a surety, which he might have demanded of them, and did provide this surety, his own only Son, imputing his righteousness to them, and requiring nothing of them for their justification but faith, which also is his gift, their justification is to them of free grace.

A. Justifying faith is a saving grace, wrought in the heart of a sinner by the Spirit and Word of God, whereby he, being convinced of his sin and misery, and of the disability in himself and all other creatures to recover him out of his lost condition, not only assenteth to the truth of the promise of the gospel, but receiveth and resteth upon Christ and his righteousness, therein held forth, for pardon of sin, and for the accepting and accounting of his person righteous in the sight of God for salvation.

Q. 73. How doth faith justify a sinner in the sight of God?

A. Faith justifies a sinner in the sight of God, not because of those other graces which do always accompany it, or of good works that are the fruits of it, nor as if the grace of faith, or any act thereof, were imputed to him for his justification; but only as it is an instrument by which he receiveth and applieth Christ and his righteousness.

第十一章 论称义

11.1 蒙上帝有效呼召而来的人，上帝也白白称他们为义。但不是 将义注入他们里面；而是赦免他们的罪，算他们为义，接纳他们 为义人。这不是因为在他们里面做了甚么，或是他们自己做了甚 么，而是唯独因为基督的缘故，称他们为义。这并不是因为他们 有信心、相信的行动、或任何其他顺服行为，而将这些算为义归 给他们﹔乃是将基督的顺服、满足上帝公义的要求所做成的义， 归给他们，因此他们借着信心领受并倚靠祂和祂的义﹔而此信心 并不是出于他们自己，乃是上帝所赐的。

11.3 基督借着顺服和受死，完全清偿了一切如此被称为义之人的 罪债，并为他们付上适当、真实、完全的赎价，满足了圣父的公 义要求。然而，因为圣父是为了他们赐下基督，并且因为圣父接 纳基督的顺服与赎罪是代替他们，这二者皆是白白的恩典，不是 因他们里面有任何功德，所以他们的称义是唯独出于白白的恩 典；使上帝绝对的公义和丰富的恩慈，在罪人称义上可以得着荣 耀。

11.4 上帝在万古之先，就定旨称一切选民为义，而基督在日期满 足的时候，就为他们的罪死了，也为他们的称义复活了﹔虽然如 此，他们要等到所定的时刻，圣灵确实将基督施行在他们身上， 才得以称义。

11.5 上帝确实继续赦免被称义之人的罪，虽然他们永远不能从称 义的地位上堕落，但他们可能因犯罪而落在不讨上帝喜悦的状况 里，就像是儿子因过失使父亲不悦，而失去上帝的面光照他们， 直到他们自卑、认罪、求饶恕，并重新相信悔改，才能恢复。
